Boardgames we love – 2025
A few recommendations of our favourite boardgames this year.

They say chefs live on takeaway food. And you might expect a company that works with serious games to play anything but boardgames. But truth be told, we’re still as obsessed with games as we’ve always been.
Keeping with tradition, we’ve once again asked our game connoisseurs to share their most beloved board games from the year, and we’re excited to share them with you. So, grab your friends, switch to “do not disturb” on your phone, and buckle up for a peek into the world of games at Workz after hours.
The crowd pleasers
Kalaha – We’re starting off with the much-loved crowd pleaser, Kalaha. It is easy to learn, can be played by all ages, and in all languages. And honestly, something is soothing about the sounds of the stones tumbling through the board; almost therapeutic. It’s perfect for a wind-down and to disconnect after a busy day.
Scrabble – Staying in the lighter category, we have an old-time classic: Scrabble. It can put the family harmony to the test, and it might increase your blood pressure slightly, especially when someone insists that “za” is a legitimate word (hint: it is). However, it is still civil enough, and definitely less conflict-inducing than Monopoly. It keeps your brain sharp, and considering it’s been around for more than 80 years, there’s really no excuse for not knowing the rules by now.
Hitster – If you love a good music quiz and secretly wish you could take part in one every day, look no further! Hitster is the perfect combination of music, trivia knowledge and friendly competition. The DJ will spin a song, and you will have to guess the year it was released and place it on your timeline. Simple and fun.
Strategy
Condottiere – Imagine this: it’s Italy, it’s the 13th century, the Italian cities are booming with wealth and ambition. But there is one problem. The cities’ armies are weak, and they have left them defenceless to their greedy neighbours. The solution? Condottiere. The finest hired soldiers are ready to fight for the highest bidder. The game revolves around trying to obtain connected provinces in Italy, which is not as simple as it sounds. It takes strategy and a healthy dose of boldness to reach the top.
Pandemic Legacy – Did you think we were done with pandemics? Think again, because we’ve fallen head over heels for this one. Live out your dream of saving the world as you travel the globe, treating diseases before it’s too late. Humanity is counting on you, but don’t expect it to be easy. Along the way, new rules may appear, characters can gain new skills or even disappear, and every decision matters. It’s about teamwork, strategy and a desire to save the world.
Twilight Imperium: Fourth Edition – Thunder’s Edge – This big expansion for Twilight Imperium 4th edition brings a whole new way to experience the space saga. Venture into interstellar conflicts centred around the titular planet of Thunder’s Edge. There are new worlds, new factions, and a new Twilight’s fall mode, where you play the crazy king: building everything to your liking in a quest to become the ruler of the universe.
For the single player
Storyfold: Wildwoods – And lastly, we have a game that only requires one player but can also be played collaboratively, where the group collectively takes on the role of the main character. Just like in our leadership simulations. Talk about teamwork! This narrative adventure game lets you step into the shoes of the brave girl Luma, accompanied by her bear Brom. Together, you set out to heal the forest from a mysterious, gloomy shadow. It is beautiful, innovative and has an immersive story that will make it hard to put down.
