Talking culture with 999 colleagues

Workz helped TV 2 have an internal conversation about their organisational culture

In August 2024 a thousand colleagues from media company TV 2 gathered for a workshop. The goal was to define their organisational culture, as a part of their ambition on becoming the best media workplace in Denmark.

TV 2 first aired in 1988 as Denmark’s second nationwide television channel. The purpose was to broaden public service media offerings and break the DR monopoly. Over 30 years later, TV 2 has grown into a multi-channel mediatech company competing globally.

The company is a success in any definition of the word. They deliver a high-quality product and have a strong presence with their key audiences. Still they see potential in strengthening, and maybe redefining, the organisational culture and the internal vision of TV 2 as being no longer just a broadcasting network.

With the goal of becoming Denmark’s best mediatech workplace, TV 2 initiated a culture process in August 2024.

Our part

Workz helped design and execute the first leg of this process. Our focus was to get the temperature and a snapshot of the current company culture and harvest input for what the future could look like.

All employees were invited to a co-creation workshop leading to the traditional summer get-together. A thousand showed up in Hafnia-Hallen in Valby, Copenhagen, for 2.5 hours of engaging conversations on what binds them together.

The workshop was a self-facilitated series of challenges that the participants, in smaller groups, could choose to open in any sequence they liked. We designed the challenges to be fun and easy-to-use while facilitating important and serious conversations. The look and feel was a collaborative development with the TV 2 design team.

The challenges explored the company culture from multiple perspectives. For instance we invited the participants to discuss key moments in TV 2’s history and discuss how they collaborate. We also asked them to share what made them proud and what the future could hold. Each challenge concluded with the groups uploading their reflections to the cloud.

The workshop ended with everybody putting their choice of statements on a big canvas to create a shared artwork representing the culture of TV 2 as the colleagues see it.

The results

The atmosphere was packed with energy as the participants took on the challenges. As the final whistle blew, many kept talking, even as the workshop turned into a party.

The uploaded data and final artwork are now the foundation for the ongoing work to define TV 2’s organisational culture and values. But just as importantly, the workshop and the engaging conversations helped put culture on the minds of the entire organisation.
