Support your child during blood sampling
Booklets help take the stress out of blood sampling for children in clinical trials.
We often help our clients reach out and engage with external stakeholders – but it is rare that the target group is still wearing diapers.
For small children, having blood samples taken can often be a stressful experience, as they do not know or understand what is going on. We recently helped one of our clients create a generic series of three booklets aimed at children enrolled in clinical trials, with the aim of helping their parents speak with them about what is going to happen.
All three booklets are built around the same theme of ‘before, during and after blood tests’, to make sure the learnings are consistent even if the target audiences are different. We used the same illustration style throughout to create a distinct and consistent visual universe.
One booklet is aimed at 0-3 year olds and contains illustrations of both blood sample equipment and things you might bring to the clinic such as teddy bears, etc. It has touch-and-feel elements like flaps, reflective surfaces, and teddy bear-fur, to ensure a tactile and playful experience for the smaller child.
Another booklet is aimed at 4-6 year olds and contains illustrations of different rooms in the clinic, and it can also be opened to form a pop-up clinic, giving the older child the opportunity to describe what they see and make sense of the experience.
Both booklets for children can act as conversation pieces leading up to having blood samples taken.
The third booklet is aimed at parents and contains practical information about the process and advice on how to make your child comfortable.
We are quite proud of the design, and know from our client, that the booklets are well-received.
